KOMONO LAKE, a unit built around the concept of nature-oriented city pop, has released “Mezame,” its second single since new member Kuroji joined.
KOMONO LAKE was formed in January 2021 by singer and illustrator Kanbin and London-born producer SKYTOPIA, also known as a former member of Kero Kero Bonito. Bassist Kuroji joined in July. Influenced by city pop, Showa-era popular songs and soul/R&B, the group crosses urban and natural settings to create fantastical, vividly detailed scenes.
New single “Mezame” is a meditative song that draws listeners in with descriptive, imagination-stirring lyrics over a track distinguished by the quiet suspension and euphoria of drifting underwater. Following August’s “Tsukanoma,” it further reveals a new chapter for the band in its new lineup.
The artwork is by emerging designer 田村育歩, who has supplied graphics for a range of projects, including artwork for 大塚愛’s “さくらんぼ（Kan Sano Remix）” and collaborations with lute.
KOMONO LAKE is also scheduled to perform at 東京定期便vol.45 at Shimokitazawa THREE on Saturday, October 16.
