Six-piece band Com'z will release the debut album “island” on Tuesday, April 19.

Five of the members are practicing doctors, and some are still providing care on the front lines of COVID-19 treatment. This album is the result of Com'z recording songs created in response to a call to write original music. Mixing and mastering were handled by カフェオレーベル, while illustrator and manga artist 中村一般 created the album artwork.

The band began writing original songs in 2018 and started appearing at live venues around Chiba, including Shin-Matsudo FIREBIRD, in 2019. A YouTube channel launched in 2020 has been updated weekly and now contains more than 80 videos. In September, the band released two songs simultaneously: “さがす” and “パクチー抜きで.” “さがす” is a J-pop song about the emotional experience of gradually forgetting things once loved despite wanting to remember them. In contrast, “パクチー抜きで” pairs a metal-style band sound with candid feelings about coriander, an ingredient with a distinctive flavor.

The album contains eight tracks, including “Shima-Memory,” an English version of “しまめもりー.”

ARTIST

Com'z(コムズ)

Formed in 2017, Com'z is a six-piece band that performs Okinawan-style songs. Five members are practicing doctors, and some continue to work on the front lines of COVID-19 care, making this an unusual group of artists. Originally a cover band, they began writing original music after member 平日医長 said they wanted to try making a music video. The band performs live with the aim of making easy-on-the-ears music that listeners can enjoy.
