Kanto-based six-piece band Com’z released its fourth single “Shima-Memory,” an English version of “しまめもりー,” on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

The song is an advance release from Com’z’s debut mini-album “Island,” scheduled for release in 2022. It is an English version of the band’s first single, “しまめもりー,” released in 2019.

It was created in response to requests for an English-language release when the original song reached No. 29 on a J-pop chart in the United States. English lyrics over a melody evoking a nostalgic Okinawa give the song a fresh pop feel.

FTZ records will continue to support Com’z’s activities in a variety of ways.

Lyrics

I left the island of south sea, where I used to be.

And now I came here to my place where I live with my love.

I am satisfied here but I sometimes remember the warm wind and the beautiful sea.

Ah, how long was I dreaming, a dream of such a pleasant scene.

Whenever I close my eyes, I can see myself standing on a glorious stage.

I am singing a song for a long time, I sing until I reach you.

Anytime I strain my ears, I can hear myself singing on a glorious stage.

Naturally, I notice myself singing a song of shima memory.

Ah, ah, shima yo.

Ah, ah, shima yo.

I left the island of south sea, where I used to be.

And now I came here to my place where I live with my love.

I am satisfied here but I sometimes remember the warm wind and the beautiful sea.

I remember the scene of my hometown.

The skies are blue, and the clouds are white.

A very little girl is strolling, with her shima-zori, almost stumbling when she goes up and down the street of pavement.

The wall of bricks and plaster, hibiscus is blooming in the wind passing garden.

Shisa is glaring, and I can hear the sound of eisa drums from somewhere in the town of island.

And that's the story of shima memory which I love for my whole life.

come on, come on.

I left the island of south sea, where I used to be.

And now I came here to my place where I live with my love.

I am satisfied here but I sometimes remember the warm wind and the beautiful sea.

ARTIST

A six- (or seven-) member band based in the Kanto region. The members originally came together for an event at their workplace, a hospital festival. They began as a cover band, but started writing original songs in 2018 because they wanted to make a music video and felt that using a cover song for it would not be cool.
