The three-piece rock band that has performed mainly in Tokyo as Now Emitters! has changed its name to nett! (pronounced ‘net’) and released 北回帰線上のおとぎ, its first record under the new name.
Building on a sound influenced by Midwest emo and Japanese alternative rock of the 2000s, nett! pursue music that crosses genre boundaries. As they gradually attract attention on the live-house scene, they are exploring ways of expressing themselves in Japanese that resist being swallowed up by conventional ideas of ‘strength’ and ‘goodness,’ starting from their unease with those values. The record contains seven tracks, including an instrumental. Their distinctive worldview, which affirms living with weakness and awkwardness rather than rejecting them, is strongly present throughout this release.
Vocalist and guitarist 宝 also created the collage artwork. Pursuing their own expression visually as well as musically, this record signals a new beginning for nett!.
