Tokyo-based pop duo YONAGI released their second EP, 『明け方5時の海岸通り』, on July 22, 2026.
The EP arrives nearly two years after their first EP, 『1 room journey』. Positioned as the story that follows the previous EP's closing track, 「journey to the dawn（夜明けへの旅）」, it depicts the scenes after daybreak and the subtle shifts of emotion within them. The EP's overarching theme is the cycle of time and memory. Beginning with the lead track, 「明け方5時の海岸通り」, it portrays memories intersecting as time passes, and the feeling of past and present gently overlapping.
Built around acoustic textures, the EP incorporates elements of hip-hop throughout. The final track, 「記憶は溶けて」, samples a phrase from the lead track, 「明け方5時の海岸通り」. Ideas of quotation and reconstruction thus shape not only the sound but the structure of the entire release, giving musical form to its theme. As nostalgia and novelty, stillness and momentum intersect, the EP evokes a sense of drifting ambiguously along the boundaries between past and present, endings and beginnings.
