flip-flops, a two-piece band based in both Hokkaido and Tokyo whose concept is “Far-east Emo,” digitally released “4bout you” (pronounced “about you”) on May 6, 2026, as the first of three singles to be released in three consecutive months.
Built around the theme of “a moment when you suddenly want to dance alone in a deserted city,” the track crosses electronic music and guitar rock. Mechanical guitar riffs, sampling-like beats, and vocals mixing Japanese and English intersect to create a groove that makes the body respond amid coldness and wistfulness. From its opening, the track suggests a new beginning and raises expectations for the band's future activities.

ARTIST
flip-flops
A two-piece band based in both Hokkaido and Tokyo, built around the concept of “Far-east Emo.” They began in 2022, centering their work on music that crosses genres and borders. On their fourth album, released in January 2025, they proposed their own genre, “far-east emo,” combining respect for US-originated Midwest emo with their distinctive musical approach. Guitarist milano's sharp riffs and vocalist daijiro's nostalgic melodies come together in an original sound that is cutting-edge yet evokes Y2K. They independently handle everything from mixing and mastering to cover photography and music videos, embodying their polished sound design and artistic world.
