Eighteen-year-old Osaka-based trackmaker Kinail will release the digital single “My Wave” on May 26, 2021.


His first collaboration features vocals by Som, a singer-songwriter born in Seoul and raised in Osaka, whose soft, husky voice is a powerful draw.

Kinail fell in love with her voice and approached her about working together. The resulting song was inspired by scenery in Australia, where he spent time as a student.

Som's alluring, somewhat fleeting vocals and a relaxed sound that recalls a beach at dawn bring to mind the scenery he himself may have seen.

The artwork, showing a girl standing by the sea, also expresses the scene he wants to convey.

Kinail plans to express his world through a variety of content in the future, extending beyond music alone.

COMMENTS ON MAKING THE SONG

To begin with, the imagery for this song is rooted in my own experience. It is mainly based on things I have lived through: the happy memories and scenery from a short period studying abroad are expressed in the track and lyrics. The underlying theme is the sea, and we have used sounds such as waves and water falling to create an atmosphere. This makes it easier for listeners to imagine what we have put into the song. Only when that reaches them is the song finally complete. Som and I held many meetings over a long period, sharing what we could imagine from the track I had made. As a result, we completed a wonderful song that matched the image I had in mind.

I am not sure exactly what genre the song belongs to, but mixing Som's “Chill Pop” artistry with my Western-influenced track created a wonderful chemistry and led to this distinctive work. I would be grateful if you listened to it again and again. (Kinail)


The very first stage in making this song was writing the lyrics while imagining a conversation along the coast with someone important to me, such as a friend or a partner. For example, I tried to give the song a story by thinking about what I might say if someone confided their worries in me. Kinail's track had a Western-pop feel, so I struggled to work out what kind of melody to put over it, but I think we have made something that is pop while also offering a sense of comfort. ABOUT THE RELEASE

A collaboration with Som, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Osaka, began making music on a computer in 2017, and has also worked as a singer-songwriter since 2018. Amid Som's intoxicating bedroom-pop music, this track has an open, natural sound. It was composed by Kinail, an eighteen-year-old Osaka-based trackmaker who also works as a producer, and directed by FTZ records representative Kakka. Its chilled sound evokes a walk along the shore, listening to the waves as the sun begins to sink. It is a must-listen.

Som

A singer-songwriter and composer born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Osaka. Som began making music on a computer in 2017 and handles everything from arrangement to mixing. In December 2020, Som released the debut EP “Unreality.”

Som sings night pop in which floating, dreamlike electronic sounds intertwine with a soft, husky voice. Inventive lyrics that deftly weave together Korean and Japanese are another part of the appeal.

Som continues to expand activities, with previous digital singles appearing on official Apple Music and Spotify playlists.
