New York-born MIYACHI and CHICO CARLITO, who hails from Naha, Okinawa, have teamed up on the single 「CHOTTO CHIGAU」. It was released digitally by Mass Appeal on October 30 under a joint credit for the two rappers and Doc Pauly.
The song began with the phrase 「ちょっと違う」, meaning “a little different,” which can also be used to disagree with someone. MIYACHI, who grew up moving between Japan and the United States, takes that phrase and pairs New York pizza with Okinawan taco rice to describe the duo’s combination. CHICO CARLITO brings in references to the red pickled ginger served with Okinawa soba and to shisa, switching his rap from Japanese to English.
The music video is set in Tokyo at night. Directed by Netherlands-based video team Red Moons, it follows the two rappers from a yakiniku restaurant to a railroad crossing, a rooftop and finally a studio.
