Indie-pop duo pony sandwich tour, comprising a man and a woman, has released its first digital single, “happy birthday.”
The track is a birthday song for someone special facing major life decisions, struggles in love and everyday challenges. Over reverb-soaked guitar pop, it sings melancholically of a strong wish for that person to remain wonderful even when things do not go as planned. Listen also for the song’s heartfelt message.
pony sandwich tour is a Tokyo indie-pop duo whose sound resonates with US indie and indie pop from around the world. As the band’s name suggests, it grew from the feeling that, although they could not become racehorses, they are still alive, so they might as well travel slowly and freely.
The band started in 2023 and has just digitally released its milestone debut album, “pony sandwich tour,” on April 24, 2024. The self-titled album contains seven tracks, including the advance singles “緑道へいこうよ” and “つむぎ.” This new single followed in quick succession, less than a month after the album.
